Last week, the BAM! group of CMET attended Vibrio2026: The International Meeting on the Biology of Vibrios in Berlin (Germany). The conference covered the breadth of the Vibrio field: from epidemiology to ecology, from genetics to aquaculture, from virulence regulation to climate change. We have presented some of our later work on quorum sensing inhibition, antivirulence therapy and ecology of vibrios. Qian presented posters on gene silencing in Vibrio campbellii with peptide nucleic acids and on evolution of resistance to quorum sensing inhibition in Vibrio populations during host infection. Hannah presented a poster on the use of virstatin as a virulence inhibitor, and Peizhuo had a poster on the quorum sensing inhibitor Qstatin, which offers protection against shrimp-pathogenic vibrios. Finally, Ridwan had a talk on our new framework to select probiotics for probiotics to control vibriosis in aquaculture.
